Tadrart Rouge: the red treasure of the Algerian desert
In the heart of the Algerian Sahara, southeast of Djanet, stands one of the most impressive jewels of the desert: the Tadrart Rouge. This magical spot, whose name means “the red mountain” in the Tuareg language, is a veritable open-air natural museum where rock, sand and light combine to create otherworldly landscapes.

Imposing canyons, natural arches and fine sand dunes make up a scenery worthy of another planet. Here, every sunrise and sunset paint the horizon with breathtaking shades of gold, orange and reddish hues, especially if the traveler is encouraged to climb one of the huge dunes that guard our itinerant camps.

In addition to its spectacular scenery, the Tadrart Rouge is a place full of history. Among its mountains you will find ancient cave paintings and engravings that tell the life of the people who inhabited this region thousands of years ago, when the Sahara was a green paradise.

Its rock formations, carved by the wind over millennia, draw arches, spires and canyons that change color with the passing of the day, going from golden to deep red at sunset. In the middle of these mountains are hidden dunes of fine sand, some of the most spectacular in the Sahara, which offer a fascinating contrast with the reddish stone that gives them their name.

The dunes of Tin Merzouga in the Tadrart Rouge
Tin Merzouga is one of the most emblematic and spectacular places of the Tadrart Rouge and is famous for its immense orange dunes and rock formations that rise like natural sculptures in the middle of the silence of the desert.

The name “Tin Merzouga” means “the well of Merzouga” in Tamasheq language, and evokes the ancestral presence of the Tuareg people, guardians of this magical territory. Here, the contrast between the red sand and the dark mountains creates one of the most photogenic landscapes of the Sahara. Every sunrise and sunset bathe the horizon with golden lights that make this place a paradise for photographers and nature lovers.

During our trips to the south of Algeria you will be able to explore endless dunes, natural arches and canyons, and discover ancient cave paintings that tell the story of a green and lively Sahara. At night, the show continues: the sky is covered with thousands of stars, offering a unique and unforgettable experience.

Moul N’Aga, the camel owner
The name Moul N’Aga means “the owner of the camel”, and upon arrival you will understand why: among the rocks you can distinguish a gigantic natural formation that, sculpted by wind and time, looks like the silhouette of a camel resting under the desert sun. It is one of the most photographed and also one of the most traveled points of the Tadrart Rouge and a symbol of the greatness of this region.
